Rowan Corbett - Irish bones, djembe, dumbek, miscellaneous percussion, bouzouki, vocals.
"What are those and how does he do that?"
To the uninitiated they are clackety-clackers, possibly castinets - both hands whirling and writhing through the air - Rowan Corbett is one of the finest Irish bones players in the nation, possibly the world, and that's not hyperbole.
He recently got snapped up by the Carolina Chocolate Drops for their 2014 touring season - and so we'll only get him HALF the year. But he's still one of us...
... one of us....
Rowan met rob over pie. He encountered posters for ilyAIMY and wanted to see music that "sounds like the posters look". He tracked ilyAIMY down and began guesting with the band shortly thereafter. Simultaneously a friend was telling rob that "there was this GUY who plays these THINGS and you've GOT TO SEE IT!"
Having built his musical credentials while touring across the country with Renaissance Festivals and his Celtic/Irish/Progressive rock band Tinsmith - Rowan is a welcome addition to ilyAIMY. His dumbek, Irish bones, djembe and slowly growing kit help drive the percussive, rhythmic side of ilyAIMY further than it ever went before.
With influences as varied as Ani Difranco, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Soundgarden, and Tori Amos, he's a serious source of aural chaos and is a great singer/songwriter in his own right. rob gets to be ROWAN'S backing band every once in a while, and it makes his heart quicken.
Rowan and Sharif have also found themselves special musical friends and started a Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Tori Amos cover project called IO. Rowan gives Sharif a microphone. Clearly he's a madman.
