After writing the upDates I learned of Joel Pomerantz' stroke. Information below the upComing & inComing. Please send him your best healing thoughts.
I'm eyeballing the weather. Tonight we're hunkered in the Living room above the Swelter Lair since the air conditioning doesn't... quite... reach...
And then this weekend the temps become manageable, but the rains threaten. Do you have access to some sort of weather machine? A rain deity? You know what to do.
GO get that laser core. Go find the hydro-master. Nab that Ion Correlator. It landed in the Palace of Doom. And then come join us this weekend!
(seriously though, please watch our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for any news of weather-related cancelations) |

Wot wot? Sharif’s got Wednesdays free for a bit. I’m gonna use a word. It’s not a popular word. Not anymore anywho, but I’m gonna use it. Join us with Sharif on keys cause he urges us to be our… zaniest. I said it. Keeping ourselves sane, sort-of employed –…

Bethesda -
7192-7182 Woodmont Ave
IF the world knows what’s good for it, it’ll keep the GOOD stuff we’ve come up with during the Pandemic. The Bethesda Streetery definitely counts, and it looks like Bethesda got the message! They close a bunch of streets in downtown Bethesda and let the restaurants run amok… and slap…

Celebrating the 4th of July at the Takoma Park Gazebo (7035 Carroll Avenue Takoma Park MD | 12pm), ilyAIMY is sandwiched by the rootz reggae band Proverbs performing music with “strong lyrical content and musical expressions to uplift Rasta livity” and the legendary blues rockers the Nighthawks. From noon to…

An upDate to the upDates - local music supporter and community organizer Joel Pomerantz was "airlifted to Baltimore's stroke center" last night and as of then his "prognosis has not been good... is not responding and on a ventilator". Mark, Joel's partner-in-crime for the legendary Labour of Love that is the Electric Maid (site of many of the recordings of our 2013 release "Another Live") is keeping us updated here : facebook.com/mark.f.nickens.
There are many things to say about Joel - but above all his challenges, he is a Lover and supporter of original, Live, independent music. Not simply a promoter or booker - not a GATEKEEPER - he is a BELIEVER. Send him your Love, healing vibes, and remember to be kind to one another.
----
The disruption ain't over. Maybe you don't want to talk vaccinations, masks, Delta, Delta Plus, politics or science! I don't blame you - but holy mackerel the world of the independent artist sure is unstable right now.
We have a fair number of gigs coming at us. I Love it. This past weekend with Kim Gravatt, Freedom Enterprise, the full band sound, American Ice Co. Cafe - everything was freeing and LOUD and VIBRANT and ALIVE! I'm really looking forward to this NEXT weekend! It'll be a welcome triumvirate of paying gigs in favourite towns!
But as of this writing Friday's got a 61% chance of rain in Bethesda, Saturday's 30% in Frederick, and Sunday's the same in Takoma Park. Better than 1 in 3 chances that one of those three gigs is gonna get rained out. That's like 100% our income's taking at least a 33% hit.
It's why Live from the Lair isn't ending any time soon. Having a roof over our heads maximizes the chances we'll have gigs that pay the bills so we can keep a roof over our heads. Every Wednesday, 7-9pm ET.
Stay cool. Stay dry. Stay safe. We Love you and we miss you! |
