ilyAIMY upDates - TONIGHT Live from the Lair w Dave Benham, Sat in Falls Church, Sun in Frederick View online

Happy Wednesday my friends. Next week we head to Massachusetts, but first we must acclimate ourselves to our best biosynthcyberganic selves. We shall install new drivers for our fingers, update our aural apps and calibrate the snazzy overlays over our vision.

Sharif will be over in a bit, setting up his keys and synths. Dave Benham will be hot on his heels, setting up his flutes and synths. I'm not quite sure how that's all going to work, but it's going to be a strange melding of the organic and synthetic. A cyborg kind of night. A bionic kind of night.

Live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch at 7pm ET (-5GMT). Tonight we're cyberAIMY.

... and then next week we head to Massachusetts... but till then we'll stay pretty organic.

After terrifying the world with what mechanical organism crossovers we let loose upon the internet tonight, we'll be just three lonesome songwriters on Saturday as part of The Songwriters' Association of Washington Summer Songwriter Sessions, and then just TWO lonesome songwriters bumming around a brewery in Frederick, MD.

Don't let us be lonesome.

The pandemic is with us seemingly eternally, so it doesn't hurt to call a venue ahead of time to make sure there are no surprises! We try to keep everything up-to-date on ilyAIMY.com - but our social media is more up-to-the-second! Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are where we'll post last-minute changes - so make sure you follow, Like, subscribe... whatever it is you do on those crazy thangs!

Wandering and Wondering:

I continue to be impressed by those who come before me. Whether it's all the work that Dave Eisner's put into House, School and Institute of Musical Traditions, or Herb Levy's efforts with FocusMusic, or Robin Stearn and her ferocious support of Takoma Park Folk Festival and Jeni Porter and her Ellicott City Main Street Festival - I step back and am amazed by the energy and fervour they bring to our local scene.

But this weekend, it's Jay Keating.

Look at Jay Keating. Look at him spring from place to place, generally with something approaching a smile on his face. Watch Jay and Kelly Diamond create events by sheer force of will, elbowing their way into new nightclub spaces like Earp's Ordinary, and old, legendary clubs like Blues Alley.

This week and weekend the Songwriters' Association of Washington Summer Songwriter's Sessions are going to pack about 30 pretty spectacular singer/songwriters on to the stage (and Jay built the stage too!) at Earp's Ordinary Popup in Fairfax VA. Gabrielle Zwi, Jillian Matundan, Janine Wilson, David Kitchen, Annette Wasilik, Susan Rowe, Todd Walker, Jeff Smith, Sol Roots, Emily Mitchell, Know1Else, Mike P Ryan, Domenic Cicala, Chris Titchner, Miles Gannett, Andrew McKnight, Cletus Kennelly, Lynn Hollyfield, Conor Brendan, Juels Bland, Michael Potts, Quiet the Mountain, Veronneau... and that's just the artists we've shared a stage with...

Go camp out in Fairfax. Watch Live from the Lair on your phone and then just LIVE at Earp's Ordinary. That's a Hell of a show.

Thanks Jay Keating.

*Yes, you eagle-eyed linguistic ilyAIMYites, "bee's knees", though it has no "z"s in the phrase, generally pertains to words WITH "z"s in them - which is precisely why a "gazebo" is the "bees' knees". And yes, eagle-eyed linguistic ilyAIMYites - I've now used two different possessives (and one non-possessive) way of staying "bees knees" because really, who the Hell knows and I'm NOT looking it up. Even though every time I say I won't look something up I then look it up and write an addendum, this time I'm NOT DOING THAT!!!
