Saturday was incredible. If you were there, you know. If you weren't, we're hoping to do a couple of video releases of things from the ilyAYREheart show soon. And we're definitely going to book more of them.

Because I LOVE collaboration. It's what music is ABOUT for me. Bending a note till it means what you meant and switching up the rhythm with a smile of apology, only to catch the eye of someone who's right there with you.

And tonight we'll get a lot of that. Matt Nakoa. An old friend, well-met at a coffeehouse in South Carolina, I'm eternally grateful he had a Sharpie and some scrap paper sitting with him on that highway back in 2009. 

Matt is without doubt one of the best male vocalists on the modern music scene. I think I can say that without caveat. His piano playing is emotive, passionate, theatrical - his guitar prowess reflects a classically-trained master with attention focused on tone and subtlety. He's an amazing foil of subtlety to my own hammer-to-anvil rage. 

Oh, and he's a nice guy to boot!

So glad to invite him into our home tonight. Heather's making lasagna. I'll make the sound go.

Wednesdays are becoming a day of the week with no clear analogue. 

As a musician, my Friday used to be my Monday. Sunday was my Friday. Monday was still somehow ANOTHER Monday because I ran my open mic. But with Wednesday being the beginning of my gigging for the weekend now Wednesday is my Monday, except I've also run open mic on Monday and Tuesday, unless Rowan's covering Monday.

But Wednesday morning is this beautiful slow moment. I make breakfast at a leisurely pace, let the cat in to hold Kristen down, which allows me an even MORE leisurely pace, and then slooooowly panic about the various newsletters and things that I'm forgetting, before relaxing into the idea that once again this is something I Love, and if you Love your work you never work a day in your Life, you just eventually devolve into a slow-falling CRAZE of obsessiveness over every little thing because it turns out you have no hobbies.

Ahem.

It's usually a pretty chill day, slowly working it's way towards setting up for the Lair, thinking through any special requirements for our evening (tonight, will I be miking Matt's amp? Will he bring his electric? How much beer and lasagna WILL Heather bring? Will the cat let Kristen get out of bed before we sound check? Is it "miking" or "micing"?)

In any case. I guess I'll go shuffle things that need to be shuffled, move things that need to be moved, and continue trading Godzilla gifs with Joey, because there is no purer expression of emotive content than Godzilla gifs.
