I'm eyeballing the blue skies outside the Lair and remembering what my mother always says : "Eat dessert first". In this case "dessert" is going to be "getting out and taking a walk" and "first" is going to be "right after I'm done with THIS".
It's why I invite friends over to play the Lair sans any CLEAR plan as to what we're gonna do. It's why I order food at Earp's Ordinary first thing. Some things are worth worry, some things aren't. There's an EASY way to fix worries over "will I have time to do the thing I ENJOY". |

This Wednesday we're joined by Susan Rowe. She's a writer's writer. Which isn't to say that you, dear listener, wouldn't relate - but it IS to say that Susan writes songs that express the very HEART of my own experience as a sloooowly (sometimes not-so-slowly) aging singer/songwriter trying to find my place in the world, doing a thing I Love so HARD that sometimes I hate it.
This Friday's show at New Deal Cafe had a lot of that seemingly-irreconcilable difference in it. Loving something so hard that it breaks.
Playing till my fingers bleed is something that sounded kinda romantic as a kid - now not so much. But some nights are like that. Friday was like that. You just take it to the edge and lose some skin to it.
Do what you Love. |
