ilyAIMY Dangerous Music for Dangerous Times

Movin' right along. Tonight's show with our drummer Joey Jenkins, Alice Howe and Gabrielle Louise is going to be a beautiful thing. I know they'll be showing his video for his powerful protest song "Don't Say Anything" - and if you want to put some money towards the NAACP for Juneteenth while supporting your favourite artists - ilyAIMY has a bandcamp page (ilyaimy.bandcamp.com) and today bandcamp is donating their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Heather's got a post about this here including some links for other favourites on bandcamp: https://www.facebook.com/halloyd/posts/10157484582213481.

In addition - a note about tomorrow! SAW's Community Day AND the Mountville Folk Festival BOTH have a lot going on. But both also require pre-registration! Get on it - info below!

Our Awkward Plea : ilyAIMY hath lost all their gigs. If you've got some digital currency burning holes in your digital pockets, we've got physical merch at ilyaimy.square.site and digital merch at ilyaimy.bandcamp.com - and of course we'll happily accept donations at paypal.me/ilyaimy and Venmo @ilytips.

SAW (Songwriters Association of Washington) Community Day.
Sat 6/20 | activities all day, rob Hinkal at 4pm

SAW will host the first ever Virtual Community Day on Saturday, June 20th. We have a full day of workshops, sing-alongs, song circles, song critiques. Plus recording, singing, and performing demonstrations. Pro advice from industry leaders. With a few celebrities from the LA music scene to boot! All online. There's a LOT going on - not least of which a presentation from rob!

"So – the world has changed dramatically at least TWICE since 2020 began rendering much of my last SAW 'masterclass' about Making Music Your Life at least temporarily obsolete, and Coronavirus and George Floyd have left my previously planned topics for THIS 'Community Day' course feeling quaint if not almost offensively out-of-touch. Though initially I’d planned to drill into specifics of image vs message and how we operate on the continuum between who we are as performers (art) vs how we sell and execute that performance (craft) – I think it may be more appropriate, and useful, to revisit many of the things I’d touched on in 2018 and see how they’ve changed in not just the last two years, but in the past two months. However you personally feel about current events, we need to talk about the realities of how these things have changed our Lives as artists and creators in a very fundamental way. None of us can see the future, but some of this has changed forever.

This will be a practical conversation about booking (from both the artist and the booker’s point of view), audiences, venues, messaging and even how we present a digital show going forward in a virtually (pun-intended) unrecognizable world. Yeah – we talked about all this stuff two years ago – but the world changed. Now what? We’ll go from broad strokes (theory, experience and a bit of philosophy) to the specific (OBS, Zoom, Facebook Producer and more)."

Plus, depending on who's in the room - I'll probably play some music. Come see behind the curtain on what I do with my time. More information and registration here : https://saw.org/event-3863027

Virtual Mountville Folk Festival
Singer/songwriter Andrew McKnight has been "furiously planning and organizing" to present his first-ever Virtual, socially-distanced version of the Mountville Folk Festival. For 25 years people have looked forward to with Andrew in the beautiful Blue Ridge foothills to kick off the summer, and he's doing his best to bring as much of that Mountville vibe and local beauty through the internet unto your Living Room. Live performances from Tony Denikos, Dana and Susan Robinson, LEA, Naked Blue, Carla Ulbrich, Andrew McKnight - and ilyAIMY right at 7.30pm.

One last thing...
One last thing...
I'm presenting Jimmy Stewart Sunday evening. It's going to be my dessert after what's been a very, very intense two weeks.

Watch here...
Wandering and Wondering:

We're all going through a rough patch. I've got little else to say in this little box right here. Thanks to Heather and Kristen for holding it down when I broke on stage this week. I don't know if I couldn't do this all without you, but I sure wouldn't WANT to.
