I've seen a lot of conversation about HOW one should vote. I can't believe that in America we should ever have to have the conversation of "what way should I vote that seems most likely to actually be counted" but here we are... and I'm very, very grateful that here in Maryland I don't fear my vote being tampered with. (knocks on wood)
Despite the hype, you're vote's probably going to get counted too, though plenty of areas are trying to make it harder for you to actually PLACE that vote... and of course it worries me about the tales of a postal worker just DUMPING bags of votes in New Jersey and of the Republican Party setting up additional unregulated boxes in California ... and I REALLY hate seeing people reaching out on Facebook or NextDoor to ask where the voting boxes are, when polling places are open... if you're online, get your info from a real source.
Take the time to learn about things too. Don't just go down and toe your party line. Vote411.org is a great place to get educated. There are gaps, but it's a pretty wonderful rundown on the participants on your WHOLE ballot, the issues at play for any referendums... and they don't weigh in with their OWN opinions. This is just a baseline of course (sigh, now I miss Sharif) but it's a great starting point.
I generally like to think that ilyAIMY fans are some of the smartest around. It's why you gravitate to music that you have to think about. Keeping thinking friends. If it was simple it would've been solved by now. |
