Well, in all honesty it's BEEN time to batten down the hatches. If the hatches had been battened all this time maybe it'd be just about time to UNbatten the hatches. But somehow battening is political.
As part of the community that HAS been battened, we're very careful about our bubbles and am grateful when we can get them overlapped. Sunday afternoon I got to watch a friend play a song IN PERSON as I picked up an instrument from her - and I was shocked by just how visceral it was to watch Patty Reese and Dave Chappell playing, singing, making their noise at a bandstand in Brookeville, MD. I had JUST presented her as part of IMT : LIVE so it was no surprise that she's THAT GOOD - and I've been a huge fan of Dave's playing for years - but I was unprepared for what an impact having it all there in front of me was going to have.
It reminds me that even though they're just little windows on the internet, even though they're so much work, my Monday night VOMs, our Wednesday Live from the Lair shows, IMT : LIVE, Beyonce Mass, On Your Radar, FocusMusic, the concerts and CD releases and all these THINGS that I've been running - they're important and have impact and they're keeping us all going - financially and spiritually. But they are place holders. They haven't replaced the "real" thing. We need the REAL THING.
We'll get there. Just batten down those hatches.
