Samba is happening. It’s probably one of the last chipper things of the night because I’m probably going to watch the last presidential debate. I don’t really wanna watch it. We’ve talked about NOT watching it. But I imagine we’re probably going to watch it.
The presidential race has been grueling and pretty disgusting. Once upon a time I felt that “my” candidate at LEAST could hold the moral high ground, but he’s been just as guilty for mud-slinging, earning Pinnochios, distorting his opponent’s speech and being generally two-faced.
On the one side the Romney of five years ago I’d have considered pretty moderate, and if the majority of America was paying attention, he’d probably lose his conservative base pretty damned quick. It’s almost similar to the Romney being broadcast right NOW – but the Romney of the last several months has been disgustingly right wing, and if the majority of America was paying attention, he’d probably lose his moderate base pretty damned quick….

Not that Obama hasn’t disappointed pretty severely, but at least he’s sort of a known quantity of disappointment – not the downright dangerous pandering creature that Romney seems to be… but if I could have the OLD Romney back… not the old one, the OLD old one…
Well, whatever. In Maryland I don’t even really get a vote. We’re a blue state. I’m not going to change that even if I wanted to. There are plenty of other issues on the ballot, like gay marriage, gambling, job requirements for registrars and judges – plenty of stuff that actually WILL be decided on November 6th. I won’t be in town but filed for my absentee ballot over a month ago.
I’m opinionated on some of it (Question 6), kind of up in the air about other parts (Question 7) and have only recently formed an opinion on much of the rest. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s about the best one in the world. I hate seeing it so tainted by money and blatant abuse, I think that the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court is the greatest and most frightening subversion of justice in recent history and will probably mar our government for years to come, and potentially permanently. I’ve made plenty of time to read lots of judicial opinions and rulings over the years and haven’t quite gotten around to reading this one… I need to because I just can’t imagine what the FUCK they were thinking. More than anything else, this is the thing that challenges my belief that there’s no big conspiracy, just a bunch of dim-witted everyday people trying to make the world a better place through various ill-informed means, sometimes getting it right and generally slowly making things better, but fucking up a LOT in the process…
Sigh. And I still can’t seem to construct a sensible political diatribe in song. I guess I’ll end up going to the Tool route – not saying anything constructive at all and just spewing rage all over the place.
Okay, enough political angst. Let’s go to the Maryland Renaissance Festival!!!
*of COURSE I know that “pulchritudinous” is a term for beautiful that is supposed to ONLY be used when referring to a person, but Heather’s been griping about me using the same words over and over again and I’ll never learn new synonyms for “Lovely” unless I use the NEW words over and over again, even if I’m using them slightly improperly I figure it’s okay and I’m still learning as long as I ACKNOWLEDGE how I’m using them improperly… |
