Ayreheart is a spectacular band fronted by Ronn McFarlane – and unlikely ilyAIMY Lover. Oh, he of the baroque lute with more strings on one instrument than ilyAIMY generally puts on stage, oh – he of actually the fabulous dance moves – Ronn is joined by one of the most emotive bass (and fiddle and colascione) players I’ve ever met in the form of Willard Morris and rounded out (perhaps sharpened) by the groove and dynamism of percussionist Mattias Rucht.
We’ve hosted them at my little open mic at Teavolve, we’ve played together on the not-so-little Ottobar for 98 Rock. 3 years ago we went from just playing a show together to downright collaborating and sounded a little something like this :
COVID took away our last previously-scheduled show together, and we’re FINALLY able to come together again. Please, please do NOT miss it. Maybe you didn’t know Baliset needed lute. You were wrong. Maybe you thought you’d never hear Heather sing in ye Olde frakkin Ainglish. You’d be wrong about that too. Looks like we get to do this every three years? So catch it now or wait till 2026.
About Ayreheart :
For centuries, the lute was considered the “prince of instruments,” and lute players were celebrities in royal courts across Europe. Ayreheart, a progressive folk trio founded by lutenist Ronn McFarlane, seeks to restore the instrument to its former glory – but in a modern context. During the Renaissance and Baroque eras, lute players were songwriters and pop stars who weren’t afraid to improvise. The three members of Ayreheart – McFarlane on lute, Will Morris on fretless bass, violin and colascione, and Mattias Rucht on percussion – all have backgrounds in rock and jazz, which comes through in their energetic performances.

About ilyAIMY :
For two decades, rob Hinkal and Heather Aubrey Lloyd have crisscrossed the nation as ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You). They have played everything from bait shops to biker weeks to clothing-optional resorts. They engage audiences with humor and award-winning narrative songs that pair an unforgettably soulful and powerful female vocalist with a percussive, clawhammer-like guitarist. Their infectious energy and rapid-fire lyricism is softened with cello and electrified by Irish bones, making ilyAIMY “a welcome jolt” and “an acoustically roiling, combustible attack on the usual singer/songwriter fare,” say reviewers.
