The day after Christmas is shiny and fierce and full of emotional confusion. They shouldn’t make television shows like “Sex in the City” – with all sorts of highs and lows and insanity and incredibly stupid men and women. I fear sitting and watching hours of bad relationships.

We had a three-way with Sharif this afternoon – practice anywho. Piano and jamming and just a fantastic couple of hours rediscovering what I Loved about music – and about the interaction between musicians.

The Christmas lights around the corner from my parents' house. I wish I'd gotten a better photograph of this - you can't really comprehend the sheer extravagance of this yard full of reindeer and Santas and a Grinch at the very tippy top of the roof.

For those of you reading this who only know ilyAIMY as a duo, Sharif is our keyboard player/guitarist who gets stuck at home all the time. Recently, he’s expressed interest in coming out on the road with us, so we’re looking at our trio options.

So, we had one of our first practice sessions with just the three of us, and I was surprised at how well things clicked.

I mean, I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised – Sharif was certainly the most interested party of those I approached while putting together ilyAIMY. Hell, even Heather had to be talked into it by her boyfriend at the time. But Sharif had seen a show, actively pursued me to an open mic, and then talked me into letting him play piano on a couple of tunes after the open mic was over.

I remember, we were at the Year of the Rabbit, and we played Spiral – and before that day I didn’t LIKE piano very much.

And so, after practice, we’re talking about what had just occured, and Sharif told me about how he felt the songs were more emotionally concentrated, or something, the way we were playing them now. It’s been a long time since one of my partners in crime implied that they were affected emotionally by what they are playing. For most of them, it’s always just been fun stuff to play – or just fun to play in general – which is why so many of our shows focus around so few tunes – because those are the ones that are “fun”.

I’m really looking forward to tonight’s show – what with a) it being this new trio configuration, and b) Firedean and Adam Day – well, I’m just uber-excited to see what’s going to happen.

Here’s to fantastic music. (clink) – OH and my BROTHER’s coming! (yay)

Yeah - my brother. I didn't take that. Freak. Note to self - don't let George get his hands on my camera.
