March 16th, 2018.

I look too tired for Windows Hello to recognize my face and I have to unlock my computer with my pin. I always feel judged when Windows can’t recognize my face – but the world around me is gorgeous – passing through the Ozarks for only the second time in our years of travel – no time to stop this time around but the mountains around us, worn down and old, I can relate.

When we walked in, one of the women said “you got yer hair did by Kansas!!!”
Many thanks to the Vine Brothers for turning us on to the perfect way to round out this week – a video shoot at Red Barn Studio outside Fayetteville, Arkansas!

Rocking to the Toadies, getting shit gas mileage thanks to inclines and declines and slow trucks and fast travel. Route 65 is worth it though, north of Branson, picking up speed on the highway cut through limestone piles and jutting walls of rock. Kristen and I have been trying to figure out not just a when for our someday honeymoon but also a where – and I’m horribly aware that this area is on a list of many, many places that we’ve had to pass through at speed in a little file labeled “to visit later”.

Heather knows how to relax… crashing with the Vine Brothers’ bass player – and more specifically the Vine Brothers’ bass player’s cat!

Hell week is over, and though we’re exhausted even BEFORE going into a weekend of bar gigs and long drives, it’s with a pretty warm glow of having done good deeds. We made a lot of people smile this week, gave a lot of people an ounce or three of energy that they wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Yesterday we got up at 6am, had a quick breakfast before taking our murder program to Caney High School for five successive programs and one last hour with senior citizens before driving three hours for a video shoot, before driving another half hour to crash with our friend Garrett from the Pine Brothers. Needless to say by the time we arrived we were FRIED.

Unfortunately, my stomach was ANGRY all night and despite turning in before midnight and only setting my alarm for 8.30am I was up multiple times over the course of the night and probably only got about four hours of sleep. We’ll drive longer than that today on our way to our show in Saint Louis, and possibly play as long as that tonight in Saint Louis…  we’ll drive longer than that tomorrow on our way to our show in Indiana… and probably play as long as that tomorrow night in Indiana…

Sunday. I’m really, really, really looking forward to Sunday.
